The Effect of Various Vitamins and Free Radicals on Seed Germination

This year, I studied the effects of various groups and types of antioxidants on free radicals in seeds. I tested two groups of vitamins; fat soluble and water soluble vitamins. Using three vitamins per group, i tested to see which group of vitamins and which individual vitamin would protect the seeds against free radicals. This project is continuation of my last year’s project.

Biography

I am a grade 9 student at A.B Lucas Secondary School. This is my third year at the Canada Wide Science Fair. I started to become interested in Science when I watched the awards ceremony at my local fair. Being in grade three, I had the need to compete with all the others in the fair so that someday, I would be up there accepting an award. I found my inspiration for my science project when I was in grade 8. At the time, we were learning about the many things that help our body to function properly. I figured out that I really wanted to research and expand my knowledge on the human body. Aside from science, I love to play soccer and hockey. I find that sports also help me concentrate more on school, which helps me with my studies and my excellence in school.
