Finding a Mentor

A mentor is someone who has knowledge and expertise in the area of your project. They can help you by answering questions, directing you to resources, or helping you get access to materials and equipment.

1. Use your local resources, such as a teacher, health practitioner, or the parents of friends.

2. Visit the web site of a scientist at any university who is doing research in the general area of your project. Familiarize yourself with their research. Think of appropriate questions to ask in an email, and reach out. Ensure that your questions are well thought out and deserving of their time.

3. Keep trying if you don’t find a mentor right away. You may need to try several possibilities before you find an appropriate match.
