Absolute Pitch – Nature or Nurture?
Mountsfield P.S.
This project about Absolute Pitch explores both the ‘nature’ and ‘nurture’ components that contribute to this ability. Research about absolute pitch spans across many areas of study including music and neurosciences. Both genetic and environmental factors have been studied with adult subjects; this project attempts to expand those studies to elementary school-age students.

Biography
My name is Jon Franchetto. I am in grade eight in the enriched class at Mountsfield Elementary School in London, Ontario. At school this year I have participated in cross country, I was the captain of our volleyball team and co-captain of our basketball team, I played in our percussion ensemble, I play trombone in the school concert band and I am involved in a primary/junior peer mediation program at our school called Peacekeepers. Outside of school I play competitive baseball for the London Tecumsehs. I like to play guitar, play video games, hang out with friends and listen to music in my spare time, and I am a pretty big Toronto Blue Jays fan. I never expected to be selected to go to the Canada Wide Science Fair and I am really excited and nervous to be part of it.
