Characterizing the Intrinsic Profile and Environmental Variations of the 5780Å DIB
London Central Secondary School
What is the universe made of? This project studies the properties of interstellar dust clouds by looking at absorption features in the light spectrum. Subtleties were absorbed in the shape of the 5780 absorption profile, which stays remarkably consistent. This suggests that the 5780 DIB is caused by a charged molecule in the surface of clouds. This result could help future work on identifying the composition of interstellar dust clouds.
